Pure Haldi

No lead chromate No metanil yellow No added colour Lab-tested

Bright, earthy, single-origin turmeric – ground fresh and tested for the adulterants that plague the open market. Turmeric is the most commonly adulterated spice in India, often cut with lead chromate or metanil yellow for colour. This isn’t. It’s just haldi, the way it’s supposed to be.

WHY THIS MATTER

Not all haldi is haldi

Typical open-market turmeric
  • Often cut with lead chromate for a brighter yellow
  • Metanil yellow (a banned industrial dye) for colour
  • Bulked with rice or wheat starch fillers
  • Sits in warehouses for months, aroma faded
  • No testing, no traceability, no idea what's inside
Masala Mahal Pure Haldi
  • Lab-tested for lead chromate, every batch
  • Zero artificial colour, ever
  • No fillers, no starch, no bulking agents
  • Ground fresh in small batches, shipped quickly
  • Batch lab report you can actually see

A simple freshness test

Real turmeric stains your fingers a warm mustard-gold and smells earthy and slightly bitter. Adulterated turmeric often looks unnaturally bright, smells flat, and the colour can run oddly in water. Try this: stir half a teaspoon into a glass of warm water. Pure haldi settles into a soft, cloudy yellow. If it turns deep, harsh, or stays vividly bright with streaks, that’s a sign of added colour. Ours won’t.

A simple freshness test

Turmeric is the single most adulterated spice in Indian kitchens. The two biggest culprits are lead chromate — a toxic industrial pigment added for that vivid yellow, and metanil yellow, a banned synthetic dye. Both are genuinely harmful, and both are invisible to the eye. That’s why we lab-test. Every batch is checked for added colours, metal residues, and starch fillers before it’s packed. We keep the report for each batch, and you can ask to see the one for yours. We’d rather spend on testing than on a louder marketing claim. The proof should be in the lab, not just the label.
